Karla Hammond, Whakatane
Trustee since 2010.
Since my arrival in New Zealand in 1997, I have been passionately involved in volunteer work and fundraising for various charities. As Mayoress of Whakatane District from 1998-2004 I actively supported the Whakatane District communities and continue to do so.
Patron of Disabled Person's Assembly EBOP and Patron of the Whakatane Arts and Crafts Society since 1999.
In June 2010, elected District Governor Quota International District 37 - New Zealand for 2010-2012.
My husband Colin and I championed the Project Hope Committee which successfully raised $1.5m for the EBOP Energy Cancer Centre at Whakatane Hospital. The committee met their fundraising target in 2-years and the building was completed in one year and underbudget which left us $500,000. These funds have gone towards supporting the Renal Centre being built at the Cancer Centre; The EBOP Hospice Refurbishment; and the new Plunkett Rooms in Whakatane.
Also a Trustee and volunteer at Mountain View Rest Home in Kawerau.
