BayTrust offers two scholarships, the BayTrust Disability Scholarship and the BayTrust Kaitiakitanga Scholarship, please see below for more information.
Background
Originally named the 'Bruce Cronin Scholarship' after first manager of BayTrust, serving from 1996 to 2014.
This scholarship was established to recognise his service to the people of the Bay of Plenty.
Eligibility
Scholarship
Up to two scholarships may be available each year.
The scholarship(s) will carry an award of $5,000 each and is to support postgraduate study at Master or Doctoral level at a New Zealand University in the following area of research:
The selection committee (Universities NZ & BayTrust staff) reserves the right to determine if the applicant’s area of research falls into this category.
The dissertation or thesis should have a demonstrable benefit to the wider Bay of Plenty region.
If there are two worthy candidates that apply then a total of $10,000 in total could be awarded.

Candidates should complete an application form using the Universities NZ on-line scholarship application website: https://universitiesnz.communityforce.com/
The closing date by which applications must be complete and submitted through the website is 1 February for tenure in the same year.

The BayTrust Disability Scholarship (Tū kaha, Whai Kaha – stand tall, people with disabilities) was established by BayTrust in 1990. It was originally named after the late Ray Dillon, former Chair of BayTrust who was well known for his active support of people with disabilities. The scholarship was established to support Bay of Plenty students with disabilities whose home base is within the Bay of Plenty. If asked, students must provide proof of their relationship to the Bay of Plenty going back to parents/grandparents.
Applications for the Disability scholarship are now OPEN for the following year of study (2023).

The scholarship provides financial assistance to people who have significant disabilities and who will be undertaking tertiary education.
Scholars may receive up to $5,000 per annum for 4 years full-time study.
Applications are open only between November and January.
